about

"On The Twitter-Machine, their second Soul Note release, the Furic-Leibovici quartet approaches the music organically, weaving together with remarkable interactive skills, deploying a gentle-but-purposeful group feel. Chris Cheek's tenor is lush, and Jim Black deftly incorporates silence into his lean drum work. Furic, who has a knack for writing flexible charts, contributes all but three of the compositions: Cheek's gorgeous "Could You Be There?" (the opening chords of which show Patrick Goraguer to be a pianist of real depth and potential), Black's "The Moon Breatheed Twice", and "Diamonds and Pearls", Furic-Leibovici's surprising arrangement of a Prince tune."

------------------

"This second album by Furic-Leibovici's quartet was recorded at the end of a month of dates. That explains the easy familiarity with which the players handle these compositions. Fluidity is the key. How pieces begin and end, how long they run, where entrances occur, the way the band manipulates the pulse - these factors are unpredictable. It's hard to think of another young band which juggles so many variables with such apparent ease. Like a Twittering Machine, it can appear to be a delicate mechanism, but it sings sweet as birds."

about

STÉPHANE FURIC-LEIBOVICI France

FURIC LEIBOVICI 's innovative work in the 1990's and 2000’s bridged late 20th-century through-composed music with music for virtuoso improvisers.

His current output - atonal, asymmetrical, rhythmically complex, is marked by a high-tension state which coexists with a nocturnal nature poetry.

His compositions include music for chamber orchestra and ensembles, solo instrumental, vocal works.
